Welcome to the First Blog Post in My New Series: Highlighting Puerto Rico’s Local-Owned Businesses

I am super excited to start this chapter because, as many of you may or may not know, I have been living in Puerto Rico for almost eight years! I know, time flies! And if you know me, you know that I LOVE everything about building community. I’m always using my social media to build relationships and educate my community about the hidden gems in PR. But it’s time I start writing about them and putting them on my website!

So here goes…

This past week, I had the honor of meeting Ricardo, one of the co-owners of Divinissimo Gelato in Guaynabo, Puerto Rico.

I actually met both Emmanuel and Ricardo, the amazing co-owners of this business, when I decided to participate in a tabling event a couple of weeks back. Their business was the one organizing and leading the event! Through that event, I knew I had to come back, learn more about how they started, what they are about, and, of course, try more of their amazing products—because who doesn’t love wine and gelato?

Let me tell you a little more about this hidden gem that perfectly blends two of life’s sweetest pleasures: wine and gelato. Divinissimo Gelato, co-owned by Puerto Rican partners Emmanuel Cruz Camuñas and Ricardo Burgos Meléndez, offers a unique experience that goes beyond your typical ice cream shop.

A Fusion of Passion and Flavor:

Emmanuel and Ricardo, both passionate about wine and desserts, embarked on a journey to create something truly special. They combined their love for these indulgences to craft gelato that not only satisfies the sweet tooth but also offers a one-of-a-kind tasting experience. Their motto, “Porque siempre hay buenas razones para brindar… ¡con gelato!” (Because there are always good reasons to toast… with gelato!), perfectly captures the spirit of their creation.

What sets Divinissimo Gelato apart is its artisanal process. Each batch of gelato, which takes approximately three days to make, is crafted with 100% natural ingredients—free from preservatives, lactose, and gluten. And made HERE, in Puerto Rico! The gelato is also lightly infused with alcohol, ranging from 1.5% to 2% Alc/Vol, giving it a unique twist that appeals to both wine and dessert lovers. For those who prefer to avoid alcohol, they offer a range of non-alcoholic flavors as well.

A Taste of Italy with a Puerto Rican Twist:

The gelato at Divinissimo is more than just a treat; it’s a culinary journey. The flavors are inspired by Italian wines, and each one is named after a Greek or Roman god, adding an element of divinity to the experience. For example, their first flavor, Baco Roso, is a delicious blend that pays homage to the god of wine, Bacchus.

Even your furry friends are welcome at Divinissimo! #PetFriendly They offer a special gelato flavor for dogs, made with banana and peanut butter, ensuring that everyone in the family can enjoy a treat.

More Than Just Gelato:

Divinissimo Gelato isn’t just a place to grab a quick dessert; it’s a community hub. The owners regularly host events like poetry nights and paint-and-sip gatherings, making it a vibrant spot for both locals and visitors. The best way to stay updated on their events is by following them on social media or checking their website. Their next big event, the Albariño Festival on August 25th, is not to be missed. Reservations are required, so be sure to secure your spot!

A Sweet Legacy in the Making:

Emmanuel and Ricardo’s story is as sweet as their gelato. What began as a simple conversation on a date has blossomed into a business with a vision for the future. They hope to franchise Divinissimo Gelato and expand to the mainland United States, spreading their love for this unique fusion far and wide.

Before I left, I had the chance to try one of their latest creations: a Manchego flan (drool). It was a delicious reminder that at Divinissimo, every flavor is a celebration of good taste and creativity.

Whether you’re a local or just visiting, Divinissimo Gelato is a must-visit spot in Puerto Rico. It’s a place where tradition meets innovation, and where every scoop tells a story.
