Did you know Puerto Rico has its very own winery? 🍇🍷 Nestled in the stunning mountains of Utuado, Finca Vista Bella offers a one-of-a-kind wine-tasting experience. As the only winery on the island, it boasts a variety of unique wines made from locally grown grapes and other fruits. I recently had the pleasure of visiting Finca Vista Bella with my girlfriends for a memorable wine-tasting adventure, and I’m excited to share all the delicious details with you!
- The Journey to Utuado:
Our day began with a scenic drive through Puerto Rico’s lush landscapes. Utuado, located in the central mountainous region, is known for its breathtaking views and rich history. As we wound through the roads, anticipation built for what awaited us at Finca Vista Bella. The trip to Utuado itself is part of the adventure—expect to see rolling hills, vibrant greenery, and even some local wildlife along the way. Please note it is about a 1-1.5 drive from the area metro Don’t forget to include that in your planning!
- Arriving at Finca Vista Bella:
Upon arrival, we were greeted by the warm and welcoming atmosphere of Finca Vista Bella. PARKING is included and directors to the Finca are provided upon making reservations. Reservations ARE required.
The winery is set amidst a beautiful backdrop of mountains and vineyards, making it a perfect spot for a relaxing day out. The rustic charm of the winery, combined with the surrounding natural beauty, immediately put us in a relaxed and joyful mood. Check out my REEL if you have NOT seen it yet HERE.
- A Tour of the Winery:
Emmanuel, the passionate co-owner of Finca Vista Bella, personally guided us through a tour of the winery. He shared fascinating stories about the winery’s 14-year journey in winemaking, from its humble beginnings to becoming Puerto Rico’s sole winery. We learned about the different grape varieties they grow and how they adapt traditional winemaking techniques to the island’s unique climate.
- The Wine Tasting Experience:
The highlight of our visit was, of course, the wine tasting. We were treated to a selection of Finca Vista Bella’s finest offerings, each one more delightful than the last:
- Merlot: A unique take on this classic red, with hints of tropical fruits that reflect the island’s flavors.
- Rosado Blend: A refreshing and light rosé that was perfect for the warm Puerto Rican afternoon.
- Licor de Parcha (Passion Fruit Liqueur): A sweet and tangy liqueur that quickly became a favorite. It’s made from locally sourced passion fruits and embodies the vibrant taste of the tropics.
Each sip was a new experience, and Emmanuel’s explanations added a personal touch that made the tasting even more enjoyable. The wine tasting was not just about sampling wines; it was an opportunity to LEARN about the winemaking process, the importance of local ingredients, and the dedication behind every bottle.
- Behind the Scenes: The Winemaking Process
Emmanuel did such a good job in explaining the behind the scenes of the winemaking process. From the grape selection to fermentation and bottling, each step was carefully explained. It was fascinating to see the amount of work and passion that goes into crafting each bottle of wine. Emmanuel and his team have a deep respect for the land and the traditional winemaking methods, which shines through in every sip!!
- Tips for Visiting Finca Vista Bella:
